Ready Mix Concrete
Ready-mix concrete is concrete that is manufactured in
a batch plant, according to a set engineered mixdesign. This is a major part of any Concrete construction
project.
Ready mix concrete is a combination of cement and water,
and aggregates like sand and coarse aggregates and stick them together into a
rock-like mass that is known as concrete.
Types of
Ready Mix Concrete
- Transit mixed concrete.
- Shrink mixed concrete.
- Central-mixed concrete.
Transit Mixed
Concrete
In this type of ready mix concrete all the raw material
are batched into the truck mixture which is rotating at a charging speed and
during the loading time and after that it is rotating at a normal speed
continuously. It is also called dry concrete.
Shrink Mixed
concrete
This is the type of concrete in which concrete is
partially mixed at the batching central plant and then remaining mixing is done
in the drum during their transit time.
Central Mixed
concrete
In this type, Concrete mix is made thoroughly in the
central batching plant before loading in the drum mixture. Drum mixture
performs as agitator only during transporting. It is also called wet batch or
pre-mix plant.
Advantages of
Ready Mix Concrete
- Quality Concrete is made as it is produced
from consistent method and equipments are well advance in addition to that
constant monitoring is done.
- Construction projects like dams, roads, bridges, tunnels will be completed in defined time.
- More durable structure is made therefore
service life and saving life cycle costs are increasing.
- Unnecessary wastage of basic material at the
site can be avoided.
- Cement is saved and so will conserve the energy and resources, and restrict environment pollution.
- Labour cost can be reduced by eliminating
labour association with the production of concrete.
- No need to store material at site.
Disadvantage
of Concrete
- Initial investment is huge
- Need an effective transportation
system from the batching plant to the job site.
- Labour should be ready at the site to
cast the concrete in position without any delay to avoid slumps in the mixture.
- It should be used within 210
minutes of batching the plant as Concrete has limited time and. Traffic
jam or breakdown of the vehicle can create a problem.
- For smaller projects (less quantity of
concrete is required) it is not suitable.
